Freddie’s pretty Wooster-ish in this one. You can help by adding to it. A Blandings collection The ivied walls of Blandings Castle have seldom glowed as sunnily as in these wonderful stories — but there are snakes in the rolling parkland ready to nip Clarence, the absent-minded Ninth Earl of Emsworth, when he least expects it.
As a third blancings narrator writing about the spoiled ultra wealthy English, Wodehouse is entertaining, if a bit repetitive, but the American stuff is pretty flat and wa Four stars for the Blandings Castle stories, about the first elzewhere of the book. Bring On the Girls!

The last five reflect Wodehouse’s time as a scriptwriter in Hollywood, poking much fun at the ignorance and management of the picture studios by its moguls, and the servile condition of the staff, including the ‘nodders’, whose job was just to nod silently in agreeing with their bosses, but only after the ‘yesmen’ had had their say!

I must admit that I can’t quite stomach binge reading his works, but I take a great delight in all that I’ve read, and this is another comedic masterpiece. You enter with little hesitation and awkwardness but receive a warm welcome there,soon fall in love with its marvellous characters, its surroundings, its plot- which always gradually thickens!
I just love stories involving The Empress of Blandings. The stories in this collection are what he refers to in the preface as “the short snorts in between the solid orgies” 8.
I thought this story was quite funny. But first of all there is the vexed matter of the custody of the pumpkin. The story with the dogs is plain funny. Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, KBE, was a comic writer who enjoyed enormous popular success during a career of more than seventy years and continues to be widely read over 40 years after his death.
I liked the Blandings stories, most of which involved Emsworth’s younger son Freddy, better than the final 4 Mr. If I could cut this book in half it would be easier to rate.

He is followed, in order of precedence, by the second Yes-Man – or Vice-Yesser, as he is sometimes called – and the junior Yes-Man. He’s fine as a narrator for the English characters, though I will always and forever wish that I could find all of the narrated by Alexander Spencer. I am less enamored with Wodehouse’s Mulliner stories. Anche in questo caso, non mancano alcune scene toccaneti, come nell’ultimo racconto “L’amica di Lord Emsworth”, in cui Clarence fa amicizia con una bambina che si trova nel villaggio.
I think that Wodehouse’s talent for twisted, clever plots is best displayed in his novels, but I enjoyed the Emsworth stories which are somewhat interrelated quite a bit a I continue to indulge myself by the occasional purchase of a nice Collector’s Wodehouse hardcover.
I quite enjoyed the Blandings Castle stories. This section needs expansion. The chief executive throws out some statement of opinion, and looks about him expectantly. Despite the political qnd social upheavals that occurred during his life, much of which was spent in France and the United States, Wodehouse’s main canvas remained that of prewar English upper-class so Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, KBE, was a comic writer who enjoyed enormous popular success during a career of more than seventy years and continues to be widely read over 40 years after his death.
Lord Emsworth, aka Clarence Threepwood, 9th Earl of Emsworth is the principle character and a good ol’ bean. Now humor is a very cxstle thing, and what one person finds uproarious may leave another cold. Lord Emsworth and the Girlfriend: The first six stories all take place at the book’s namesake Blandings Castle ; they are set some time between the events of Leave it to Psmith and those of Summer Lightning If it’s not the pig, then it’s a pumpkin, but mainly it’s the pig.
Skipping an ocean and a continent, Wodehouse also treats us blandinggs some unputdownable stories of excess from the monstrous Golden Age of Hollywood.
Of the dozen stories in this volume, half are dedicated to Blandings Castle and its vacuous peer, Lord Emsworth – attended by his ever-faithful butler Beach, the redoubtable head-gardener Angus MacAllister, his pig-man Cyril Wellbeloved, his prize pig the Empress of Blandings and – to the chagrin of the easy-going peer – his gorgon of a sister Lady Constance Keeble and the blot on his sunshine, his younger son the Hon. The Bobbie Wickham story is, in my opinion, the best story in this collection, as Bobbie manipulates elsewwhere the men captivated by her vivid red hair to get the better of her mothers desire to marry her to the nearest novelist or poet.

The characters in these stories weren’t nice, didn’t care about anyone but themselves, and it was almost painful to read them.
